Greyfriars Bobby - Das Stück
 | Vor 10 Jahren begann meine Tätigkeit als Komponist in Edinburgh - genau mit diesem kleinen Hund, der der Gegenstand meiner ersten sinfonischen Komposition war. Inspiriert von der rührenden Geschichte habe ich sie im Verlag "safemusic" in Wales veröffentlicht. Während unserer Tour wird sie dreimal erklingen. Einmal direkt bei Bobby in Greyfriars Kirk. Darauf bin ich besonders gespannt. Ten years ago, I began working as a composer in Edinburgh - with just that little dog that was the subject of my first symphonic composition. Inspired by the touching story, I published my first composition on "safemusic" in Wales. During our tour it will be played three times. Once directly in Greyfriars Kirk. Exciting! |
Bobby war der Hund des Polizisten John Gray. Sie sind jeden Mittag, wenn die traditionelle Ein-Uhr-Kanone in Edinburgh ertönt, zum Mittagessen in das Pub gegangen, das auf dem Bild oben zu sehen ist und am Greyfriars Kirkyard liegt. Nach Johns Tod, trauerte der treue Hund 14 Jahre lang auf dem Grab des Polizisten auf dem Friedhof und ging mittags zum Essen zum Pub, wo er regelmässig weiterhin seine Mahlzeit bekam. Greyfriars Bobby wurde zum lokalen Held und ebenfalls - als einzige Ausnahme - auf dem Greyfriars Kirkyard begraben. Dort, unmittelbar neben dem Grab der beiden, werden wir das Klangbild "Greyfriars Bobby" am Ort des Geschehens ins Greyfriars Kirk spielen. |  |
 | "Greyfriars Bobby" tells the story of a Sky Terrier who became known in 18th century Edinburgh for supposedly spending 14 years guarding the grave of his owner until he himself died on 14 January 1872. Subtitled "The Story of Unconditional Love", the work describes Bobbies life and dedication to his owner. The work opens in carefree mood describing his early times. There follows a short stressful section and the sound of the cemetery bell where he loses his owner. On the grave the dog moans - Clarinet cadence. Suddenly Edinburgh Castle´s one o'clock gun fires followed by a short time of reflection without any sound. Bobby remembers that there are things that still connect him with mankind and the meals in the local public house where in his mind his owner is still living. The music rises as he contemplates the good times and he returns to the graveside to keep vigil over John Gray, his lost owner. |
